Children aged 9 to 59 months received their vaccines against measles, rubella, and polio following the kick off of the 'Chikiting Ligtas sa Dagdag Vaccine Kontra Polio, Rubella, and Measles' vaccination drive in the town of Molave on Monday, April 24. The 'Chikiting Ligtas' campaign aims to complete the required vaccines and catch up on any missed doses among children on April 24 to 30 in celebration of World Immunization Week.

Zamboanga del Sur province hosts 2023 ZPRAA Meet

Corgue PAGADIAN CITY, April 23— The province of Zamboanga del Sur is hosting the 2023 Zamboanga Peninsula Athletic Association (ZPRAA) Qualifying Meet on April 23-27 at the Blue Oval, Provincial Government Center, Barangay Dao here. Dr. Mario Shiogie Romarate, the Regional Sports Officer said that the ZPRAA Meet will be attended by sports enthusiasts from 8 schools division in five cities and three provinces in the region. Romarate said that there will be a total of 24 sports events will be played consisting of 21 regular sports, 2 demonstration sports, and 1 Paragames in the Special Education Division (SPED). He added that approximately 6,300 delegates will participate in the ZPRAA Meet with the following learner-athletes: Elementary Level (Boys) - 113, Elementary Level (Girls) - 76, Secondary Level (Boys) - 169, Secondary Level (Girls)-141, Paragames (Boy)-21 and (Girls)-21, coaches-87, assistant coaches-12, chapersons-35 and technical officials-700. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-9) is celebrating Planet Earth Month this April with the theme "Invest In Our Earth". In the press conference, Ronald Gadot, the Executive Regional Director (RED) said that the celebration of Planet Earth Month is anchored on Proclamation No. 1482 signed by former President Gloria Arroyo on April 10, 2008. Gadot added that under the proclamation, the DENR is mandated to conserve, manage, protect and develop the country's environment and natural resources within the context of sustainable development in order to address the global problem of climate change.

The Zamboanga del Sur will participate in the nationwide Measles Rubella and Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity (MRV-OPV-SIA) spearheaded by the Department of Health and all local government units (LGUs) on May 2-31, 2023. Dahlia Aseniero, the Health  Education and  Promotion Officer (HEPO) of the Integrated Health Provincial Office (IPHO) during the program dubbed  'Balitambayan sa Hapon' over DXMB radio station said that the MRV-OPV-SIA aims to vaccinate 75,000 of 9-59 months old children for the Measles Rubella vaccine (MRV) and 83,000 children 0-59 months old for the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) so that children can be prevented from contracting infectious diseases.

Badjao students in Margosatubig town dream of becoming teachers

Corgue MARGOSATUBIG, Zamboanga del Sur, April 15— Four (4) members of the Badjao tribe in the town of Margosatubig are studying to become professionals teachers in the future and to get rid of poverty. Mercita Mamal, 13 years old, and the youngest of three children in their family, lives in the Badjao community of Purok Rubia, Barangay Poblacion and is trying to get her education to become a teacher. Mamal, a grade 7 student at Margosatubig Academy (MARAC), said that she felt compassion for her tribe because almost all of the Badjao families living in the area did not go to school. Learns to read, write Mamal happily announced that in her seven years of schooling, she learned to read and write. Alona Dosmani, 13 years old who also studies at MARAC, continues her education because she wants to finish college and help her family. The Person with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) conducted an awareness campaign on the rights of PWDs at the Kalian National High School in Margosatubig town recently. Mirriam Llanos, the provincial head of PDAO encouraged the teachers and students of the school to give full support to the PWDs studying in their school so that they can finish their education and fully participate in the building of inclusive society for all.

Fidel Hayo, Jr. , a person with disability and a senior citizen, resident of Barangay Baganian, Tabina, Zamboanga del Sur who was reported missing but was found in Molave town and turned over by MSWD Officer Rommiecel Carreon to the Person with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), Pagadian City on April 12, 2023. Hayo was then taken by PDAO Municipal Head Lino Cesar, Jr. with the order of Mayor Anthony Dayondon and delivered to the Municipal Station. The personnel of the Tabina municipal police station also delivered Hayo to his home safely.| ZDS Online News

TESDA-9, Pagadian City gov’t ink MOU to operationalize PBBM cares

Corgue PAGADIAN CITY, April 8— A memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony was held between the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) and the Pagadian City government at the Three Guest House recently. In the signing ceremony where TESDA-9, as the first party represented by Regional Director Dan Navarro and Pagadian City government, as the second party represented by Mayor Samuel Co aims to operationalize the "Paglingap sa Buhay ng Bawat Mamamayan" ( PBBM) Cares in the city. Navarro said that PBBM cares is an initiative of TESDA-9 that aims to address the problem of high unemployment in the region. "The signing of the MOU between TESDA-9 and the Pagadian City government is to see if their agency and the local government have the same direction in solving the unemployment problem in the region," Navarro explained. Over a thousand Catholic devotees joined the procession of the revered image of Our Lady of  Sorrows around the main streets of Pagadian City that started around 4:30 in the afternoon and lasted at 6:00 in the evening on Good Friday, April 7. The religious activity was held to commemorate the journey of Jesus Christ before his crucifixion and death. The conduct of procession was peaceful.

ZamboSur PNP ready to implement security measures for the observance of Holy Week

Corgue PAGADIAN CITY, April 5— The Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office (ZSPPO) is ready to implement their security measures for the observance of Holy Week in the second week of April. Major Hermenigildo Bajao, Jr., the spokesperson of the ZSPPO said in the joint conference held with the chiefs of the municipal police stations that they have already prepared the security plan in preparation for the event. Bajao said that the ZSPPO deployed police personnel in the municipalities to ensure public safety. "We have also set up police assistance desks in churches and airports and bus terminals to provide security to Catholic devotees who will gather to participate in the procession at the stations of the cross on Good Friday and also for our travellers," Bajao declared. Diplahan Fire Brigade emerged as champion of the 2023 regional fire brigade competition

Corgue PAGADIAN CITY, April 3— With their burning determination, perseverance and fighting spirit, the Diplahan Fire Brigade of Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay emerged champion in the Regional Fire Brigade Competition held at the Soccer Field, Dao Provincial Sports Complex, Dao recently. The Diphahan Fire Brigade received an award of P20,000. Meanwhile, the Depore Bayog   Fire Brigade in Zamboanga del Sur, the 1st Runner Up received Php 15,000; the Manicahan Fire Brigade in Zamboanga City, the 2nd Runner Up received Php 10,000; and La Libertad Fire Brigade in Zamboanga del Norte, 3rd Runner Up received Php 5,000. The participating teams also received a plaque of appreciation from BFP-9. The fire volunteer brigades displayed their firefighting skills by performing the following: hose laying and replacement of busted hose, bucket relay, and flammable liquid fire extinguishing.
