the 2nd Zamboanga del Sur Assembly of Teacher-Leaders at the mega gym in
barangay Dao here, Yu, the event’s guest of honor and speaker said that he
observed that the number of students taking Science courses is decreasing. The
governor saw the importance of the Science related course when a number of
technical men in China from Chinese Energy Engineering Corporation consisting of civil engineers, geologists, and
hydrologists visited his office to announce their plan to put up a hydroelectric
power plant project in province. "Their presence is what prompted my
attention to the careers they took," Yu said.

The good governor said that usually the students of the
province choose the education, nursing and criminology courses because these
are the in-demand courses, while there are only very few science-related
courses offered by our government.
The governor added that because of this, it has become a
big challenge for teachers to encourage students to take Science related
courses and careers.
Yu also announced that the provincial government recently
signed an agreement with the Department of Science and Technology to set up a
DOST hub in barangay Dao for students to use when they have experiments to do.
He added that in the future, the provincial government will also build
industries such as solar power so that the students will be interested in
knowing how to convert sunshine into useful forms of energy.
Yu further announced that he and 1st district
representative Divina Grace Yu strongly support DepEd's programs by providing
more than 200 schools in the province with Victory Wi-fi and the provincial
government will purchase the P14 million worth of equipment to strengthen the
primary and secondary antenna to help improve the Wi-Fi signal for students to
use in their research. (gcc/The Pagadian Times)
