300 college students receive financial assistance from the govt’s SMART program

PAGADIAN CITY, June 16— Divina Grace Yu, the representative of the first District of this province congratulated 300 indigent college students who received scholarship grants from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in a ceremony held at the Pavilion Hall recently at PGC, Dao here.


Yu said that the student-beneficiaries from the local state universities and colleges in Zamboanga del Sur are very lucky because out of 10,000 college students, only 300 students have availed of the Student Monetary Assistance for Recovery and Transition (SMART) program, the scholarship program of the national government.

The SMART program, is a one-time financial assistance program given by the national government to selected University students where the beneficiaries receive Twenty Five Thousand Pesos (P25,000).

Yu thanked President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and House Speaker Martin Romualdez for the implementation of the SMART program because it helped poor college students to pay for their education.


"The SMART program is an inspiration to poor college students and at the same time, reminds them that there is a government that cares for them and helps them finish their college education," explained Yu.

The congresswoman hopes that SMART beneficiaries will strive very hard in their schooling so that in the coming years they will become teachers, and police and military officers, engineers, and others.

Jeyzel Victoria Yu, the representative of the second District also encouraged the SMART beneficiaries to study hard because education is very valuable in human life.


She said that education helps people to get knowledge and improve confidence in life.

"Education can increase the intelligence of the student and that if a person gets a higher education, the higher opportunities he will have also in life.

The congresswoman added that giving great value to education is also what their parents Governor Victor Yu and congresswoman Divina Grace Yu always told them so that when they finish their schooling they can have a good life. . (jcc/The Pagadian Times)
