126th Independence Day celebration in Pagadian highlights bravery, sacrifices of our ancestors

PAGADIAN CITY, June 12— "Independence Day is the day that reminds us of the bravery and sacrifices of our ancestors who fought for our freedom."

Mayor Samuel Co highlighted the message during his speech at the 126th Independence Day celebration at Rizal Park on Wednesday, June 12.

Co spoke before a diverse audience of guests, city officials, employees, war veterans, national government agencies and non-government organizations where he emphasized the importance of remembering the nation's heritage.

Co said that this year's theme: "Preserving our Filipino Culture and Heritage to Unite Gerations," is important because it reminds us to honor our past while working together to build a better future for our city and our country.

Co added that our rich culture and heritage are what make us unique and strong where preserving these traditions is not just about remembering the past; it is about using our shared history to bring us closer together.

He urged the public to honor our past heroes by taking positive actions and to preserve our Filipino culture and heritage, not just as memory, but as a living tradition that guides us. "United in purpose and spirit, we can make Pagadian a shining example of what we can achieve when we work together," he added.

Meanwhile, Co announced that Pagadian has come a long way where we have achieved many things together.

He added that Pagadian City is fast growing, but there are differences in opinions and ideas among our political leaders and these differences can slow down our progress.

"I stand before you today to call for unity among all political parties. We must put our city's needs above our individual interests and work together for the good of all Pagadianons," Co concluded. (gcc/The Pagadian Times)
