By Gideon C. Corgue
PAGADIAN
CITY, March 17--- The Pagadian City Airport will be temporarily closed from
April 15 to May 15, 2024.
This was
announced by Mayor Samuel Co during a press conference held at the City Mayor's
Office recently.
Co said that he received an official communication from the office of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) dated March 8 notifying the city mayor's office of the status of the runway closure at the Pagadian Airport.
Co added
that the CAAP informed him that the closure of the runway and the start of
repair works will start from April 15 to May 15 this year.
"The
airport management is undertaking runway maintenance as a result of pavement
deterioration which affects the integrity of the runway surface. This repair is
critical to preserve runway pavement optimal function and ensure safety during
flight operations," Co said quoting Engr. Edwin Luching, the CAAP area
center airport manager.
The good
mayor added that the airport will be closed for a month so that the runway
maintenance can be worked on.
Co announced
that passengers who bought tickets within the date April 15 to May 15 who are
residents of Pagadian will not be affected because they will be transferred by
the airlines to Ozamis or Dipolog City.
"Passengers
will not be affected much because they can go to Ozamis or Dipolog. Those who
bought tickets within this date April 15 to May 15, since Cebu Pacific and
Philippine Air Lines (PAL) will transfer them," Co announced.
Co also
reported that the target is to finish the runway maintenance in one month, but
the RSQ contractor will try to finish it in 3 weeks time.
"We in
the city government will also help with the runway maintenance of the airport.
We will have an engineer supervise the work so that the work can be completed
quickly. We will make sure that in 3 weeks time it will be finished," Co
assured. (jcc/The Pagadian Times)
