Governor Yu recognizes the essential role of women in society

PAGADIAN CITY, March 29--- The local chief executive of
the province recognized the essential role of women in society.
Governor Victor Yu in his message at the Provincial Women's Convention at the Mega gym recently, he said that the leaders of the province are fully aware of how important the role of women is in our society.
"If (we) men are called the pillars of the home,
women are also called the light of the home," Yu said.
Yu said that women always take care of children at home.
"When we also visit schools, most of the time we see female teachers who
take care of school children," Yu announced.
The good governor announced that 1st district
representative Divina Grace Yu has good programs for women.
Congresswoman Yu promised to provide a Womens' Center and
she also bought a mammogram at the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center (ZDSMC) so
that women can avail of free breast check up and to know if there is any new
lump, swelling, thickening or bumpy area in a woman's breast," Yu said.
He added that there is also a livelihood program provided
by the provincial government for women. At the same time, he also encouraged
the mucipal mayors who attended the event to provide livelihood programs to
women in their respective municipalities.
Meanwhile, 1st District Representative Divina Grace Yu said that the provincial government celebrates Women's Month every year, with activities such as a dance contest and women's business booth participated by several women's groups of 25 town in the province.
Yu added that the whole country celebrates women's month
because women have been empowered by our government and therefore, laws have
been made that give the rights and privileges of women.
She added that the laws for women were made because in
the past, women and girls are often subjected to multiple forms of
discrimination, violence, verbal and physical abuse by family members.
She also thanked that several women's organizations were established in the province and participated in the event at the provincial government center where they entertained the guests by showing their dancing talent. (jcc/The Pagadian Times)
