By Gideon C. Corgue
PAGADIAN CITY, March
20---The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-9) represented
by Regional Executive Director Arturo Fadriquela and Kapisanan ng mga
Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), Zamboanga del Sur Chapter represented by Melchor
Coronel signed the memorandum of agreement (MOA) that aims to promote
environmental protection and conservation in Zamboanga del Sur.
The MOA signing ceremony was held inside the conference room of DENR-9 on Monday, March 18 and was witnessed by the division chiefs of the department and the KBP officers.
In the MOA, both parties
agreed to enrich the 1-hectare existing plantation or forest cover located
within barangay Baclay in the town of Tukuran.
Fadriquela said he was very
happy that the MOA signing of the KBP local chapter was conducted and he also
observed that the media practitioners are ready and willing to help the DENR in
pursuing their vision of a greener and healthier environment.
Fadriquela said that the protection and conservation of the environment cannot be done by the DENR alone and it needs the support of its partners.
"We can be more
effective in our environmental protection campaign if we are joined by our
partners, especially the KBP Zamboanga del Sur chapter," Fadriquela said.
Fadriquela added that the
partnership between DENR-9 and KBP will give great importance to the care and
protection of the environment.
The regional executive
director further said that DENR and KBP will work together to inform the people
of the importance of protecting and preserving our environment such as planting
trees and many others.
Meanwhile, KBP chairman
Melchor Coronel expressed his happiness that DENR-9 responded to their request
to find a public land where KBP members can plant trees.
"We are delighted that the DENR has offered us a hectare of forest land so that we have a place to plant trees and we have dreamed of this for a long time. With this forest land, it will be easy for KBP to carry out its reforestation and greening initiatives under the department's Adopt-A-Mountain Program," Coronel concluded.(jc/The Pagdian Times)
