Pagadian City launches Integrated Feeding Program
By Gideon C. Corgue
PAGADIAN CITY, February 24---The
local government unit (LGU) of Pagadian City through the City Nutrition Council
(CNC) officially launched the Integrated Feeding Program (IFP) for children at
the Executive Function Hall recently.
In the weekly radio program dubbed "Mayors' Report", Mayor Samuel Co announced that the IFP will provide benefits to the undernourished children in the 54 barangays of the city.
Co thanked the generous donor,
the Social Paraclete Association, Inc. in donating 2,000 boxes of Mannapack
Fortified Rice containing a total of 28,000 kilos.
It can be recalled that on
February 21, the launch of the IPF was held and the signing of the memorandum
of agreement (MOA) between the Social Paraclete Association Incorporated and
the City Government of Pagadian for the implementation of the program.
Co said that the donated fortified rice can really help malnourished children in the city.
"The city government will
try to prevent malnutrition among children by feeding them healthy food such as
Mannapack fortified rice so that Pagadian City will not be included in the list
of LGUs with the highest prevalence of undernourished children," Co said.
Co was impressed with the quality
fortified rice given because it has a mixture of powder and vitamins with soya
beans that can improve the nutritional and health status of the children.
Co said that the city government will provide a counterpart by supplying chickens to be mixed with fortified rice to be fed to the children so that it will be delicious when they taste the food.
The good mayor urged the barangay
officials to help their respective barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) in the
implementation of the feeding program because the BNS is the only one that has
been assigned to implement the program in their barangays.
The Mannapack fortified rice is
for malnourished, undernourished, at risk pregnant & lactating women,
Indigenous People (IP) children, selected senior citizens, children with
medical conditions and PWDs. (jcc/The Pagadian Times)
