By Gideon C. Corgue
PAGADIAN CITY, January 29--- The
reopening of the port will encourage economic activity in the city.
Thus disclosed Vice Mayor Baldomero Fernandez during the Maiden Voyage and Inaugural Port Call at wharf area here.
Fernandez said that new
development will be experienced in the whole of Zamboanga del Sur and
neighboring provinces with the opening of the port in this city.
Fernandez said that a long time
ago, Mayor Samuel Co mentioned to the members of the city council regarding his
plan to reopen the port that has not been operating for a long time and he also
planned that the city government will buy a ship to help the businessmen of the
city.
"In the maiden voyage and inaugural port call, I believe that the dream of our beloved mayor has finally come true," Fernandez proudly said.
The good vice mayor also
expressed his gratitude to the Megalifters Cargo Handling Corporation and
Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for the support they showed that contributed to
the success of the maiden voyage of the shipping lines.
Meanwhile, Engr. Daniel T. Reyes,
the manager of Mega lifters Terminal Port said that the maiden voyage of MV
Seaborne Cargo 9 heralds the opportunity and strengthens the bonds of
connectivity in our region.
Reyes said that the maiden voyage
was fulfilled due to the efforts of the local chief executive with the active
support of the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
"Your unwavering commitment and dedication have paved the way for the realization of your long plan and your mission that we can provide services to the Pagadian City port," said Reyes.
Reyes asked for the sincere
understanding of the people for the delay in the arrival of the shipping lines
in Pagadian because they are still waiting for all the container vans to be
assembled in Manila before being brought to Pagadian.
"We have a lot of things that need to be taken care of but we have done many ways and that's why our voyage today was possible," explained Reyes.
Reyes added that the
collaboration between the city government and Seaborne Shipping Lines will not
only benefit Pagadian City but will also benefit the entire Zamboanga
Peninsula.
"This partnership will bring
about a brighter and prosperous future for all of us," Reyes concluded.
