PAGADIAN CITY, January 7--- The Tzu Chi Foundation, a humanitarian and non-government organization in Zamboanga City in collaboration with the Zamboanga City Medical Center Physical and Rehabilitation Department,  Provincial Disability Affairs Office (PDAO)  and Zamboanga del Sur Athletes with Disabilities Association conducted recently a Jaipur Foot Camp with the theme “Bag-ong Tuig, Bag-ong Tiil: Bag-ong Pag-asa”.

Miriam Llanos, the provincial head of PDAO said that of the 120 total number of registered persons with orthopedic impairments, only 97 of them are eligible to avail of the program.

The beneficiaries, some of whom were born without legs and others lost one or two legs due to illness or accident, were attended by dedicated Tzu Chi volunteers in the casting of limbs for eventual production of their prosthetic limbs.

In the near future, these individuals will regain the ability to walk and bring a transformative impact on their lives.

Llanos added that the Tzu Chi Foundation was impressed by the number of people who registered and were interested in availing their program.

"In the places they visited, they saw a record-breaking number of beneficiaries in Zamboanga del Sur because this is the only place with many beneficiaries in the venue," Llanos said quoting the statement of the Tzu Chi Foundation.

The PDAO is also very happy with the leadership of Miriam Llanos because the program was successfully conducted because of her constant encouragement for the active support of the provincial government led by Governor Victor Yu, Vice Governor Roseller Ariosa, 1st district Representative Divina Grace Yu, 2nd district Representative Victoria Yu, San Pablo vice mayor Flavio Cordero, Jr. and municipal PDAO focal persons.

Due to the support given by government officials, their request to the Tzu Chi Foundation to conduct this year's Jaipur Foot Camp was fully realized to help PWDs get new artificial legs.

"The beneficiaries are grateful because of the favor they have received from the foundation and that they can now walk and make their lives more useful and productive," Llanos concluded. (jcc/The Pagadian Times)
