It is safe to celebrate Christmas in Pagadian, police chief says

PAGADIAN CITY, Dec. 8 --- It
is safe to celebrate Christmas here in Pagadian, this was assured by the chief
of the Pagadian City Police Station.
P/LtCol. Nelzin Nino Manese in
the press conference held recently at the mayor's office said that the police
have tightened their vigilance during the opening ceremony of Paskuhan 2023 to
be held at Plaza Luz on December 8.
Manese said that the PNP is strictly implementing security measures because of the bomb explosion that happened inside the Dimaporo gym, Mindanao State University (MSU), Marawi City on Dec. 3 where 4 people died, and nearly 50 people were injured.
Manese added that their office
deployed more policemen around the city in keeping with their commitment to
heighten efforts against criminality.
"We are implementing
police visibility in the various places of convergence of people. We are
assigning police officers to the Agora complex, churches, and bus terminals
where these will be the targets of law breakers," Manese announced.
The chief of police reported
that currently, there are 230 personnel under his command to watch around the
city. There are also bomb squads with sniffing dogs that will be used to
maintain peace in the city.
Meanwhile, Mayor Samuel Co
also assured the public that we will experience a peaceful and joyful
Christmas.
Co said that the city
government already has several metal detectors that can be used by those
guarding the entrance and exit gates to detect people who may bring metal
objects inside Plaza Luz.
He added that there is also a
Regional Mobile Group (RMG) that has been augmented from the police provincial
office, traffic personnel, civil security of the city government that will
assist our police in maintaining peace in the city.
The mayor also urged those who
witness the opening ceremony of Paskuhan 2023 not to carry guns because he is
sure that the police will arrest them.
"The number of security forces that we will put in the city will be sufficient so that we can ensure the peace and order of the Christmas celebration," Co added.
In the same vein, Manese also
called on the public to keep a careful watch while witnessing the activities in
the city.
"For visitors who come to
Pagadian, just enjoy watching the activities of ‘Paskukan’. We must remain
vigilant, we must keep being careful, and we must continue to stay alert,"
