CLARIN, Misamis Occidental, November 6 – The Misamis
Occidental Provincial Police (MPPO) released the cartographic sketch of one of
the suspects in the killing of radio broadcaster Juan Jumalon, who was gunned
down while reporting live on air over the weekend.
In a press conference on Monday, November 6, 2023, P/Colonel Dwight Monato, the provincial director said that the cartographic sketch is based on information obtained from witnesses and complemented by CCTV footages recovered by investigators in the vicinity of the crime scene.
"Based on the accounts of the witnesses, we were
able to come up with a computerized composite sketch of one of the suspects.
This is now being shown to the public, so that we can gather more information
that would lead to the identification of the suspects," Monato said.
According to the provincial director, the cartographic
description of the suspect is as follows: Male, 5 feet and 5 inches in height,
medium belt, around 40 yrs old, weighing 70 kgs, and fair complexion.
He clarified that the cartographic sketch does not belong
to the triggerman but belongs to the suspect who is at the gate serving as a
look-out.
Donato said that they cannot discount the possibility
that the cause of the victim's death is related to his work as a broadcaster
and the other is personal.
'We consider all angles and the investigation is on going.
We will not speculate because we do not want to pre-empt the
investigation," Monato added.
The MOPPO activated the Special Investigation Task Group
(SITG) composed of groups of investigators, intelligence officers, members of
forensic units, and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group to investigate
the case.
"The creation of the SITG is the response to the
order of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. that the Philippine National Police
(PNP) will conduct a thorough investigation into the brutal killing of Juan
Jumalon," Monato concluded. (jcc/The Pagadian Times)
