PAGADIAN CITY, October 23 – The construction of two district hospitals in this province will provide significant contribution in promoting health, well-being of ZamboSurians.

Thus disclosed Governor Victor Yu during a press conference with the local media recently.

Yu said that the groundbreaking ceremony was held in the two district hospitals located in the town of Ramon Magsaysay and San Miguel in this province on October 14.

The two major projects to be constructed have an initial budget of P70 million from the national government.

Yu added that he wants the district hospitals to have 100 bed-capacity because based on their inspection to Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center (ZDMS) in barangay Dao, Pagadian City and Margosatubig Regional Hospital (MRH) in In the town of Margosatubig, the hospitals are full of patients.

"In our actual inspection of the ZDMS in barangay Dao, we found out that there are more than 250 patients occupying the hospital beds and in the MRH, there are also 246 patients occupying the hospital beds where the other patients are in the corridor of the hospital", Yu said.

Due to the large number of people who are admitted, the governor said that some patients will be forced to go to private hospitals to get treatment even though the cost of treatment is expensive.

The governor added that the healthcare facilities that will be built will help greatly to decongest ZDSMC and MRH, which are the main refuges of Zambosurians during illness.

Yu added that the district hospitals will be managed by the provincial government where the trained staff, medical doctors, and registered nurses will be paid under the funds of the provincial government.

"Our fellow officials in the province: 1st district representative Divina Grace and 2nd district representative Jeyzel Victoria Yu will follow-up on the funds to Congress so that these two big projects can be realized as soon as possible. ."

"The commitment of my administration is to provide quality and affordable health care for all ZamboSurians, especially in rural areas," Yu concluded. (jcc/Pagadian Times)
