PAGADIAN CITY, September 5- The rice retailers in Pagadian City expressed their willingness to support the government in implementing Executive Order No. 39 that was recently signed by President Marcos that set the rice price ceiling in the country.

In the meeting of the Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) called by Mayor Samuel Co together with the Department of Agriculture, Department of Trade and Industry and Department of the Interior and Local Government on Monday, September 4, the rice retailers jointly agreed to cooperate in in the implementation of the rice price ceiling for regular milled rice of P41 per kilo and for well-milled rice of P45 per kilo which will be implemented effective at 12:00 noon this Tuesday.

Mayor Co urged the rice retailers association to follow EO No. 39 to provide consumers with affordable and quality rice. He asked for the understanding of the rice retailers because the price rice ceiling is not only implemented by the national government in Pagadian City but it is implemented throughout the country and besides, it only lasts for a short time.

Melba Wee, the Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations of DA-9 and Arni Grace Soro, the chief of the Consumer's Protection Division of DTI explained that their departments will implement EO No. 39 on Tuesday, September 5 and thus, they urged the 30 rice retailers in the Agora complex to fully comply with the order.

Arsenio Pianias, Sr., the president of the Corn and Retailers Association said that they are compelled to respond to the president's order rather than be punished by the law which is too much to pay and be imprisoned for many years.

Wee also suggested to the rice retailers that they put tagging or markings on their rice displays with the price and name of the rice stamped on it such as regular milled rice at P41 per kilo, well-milled rice tag -P45 per kilo and the premium and special rice at their own price so that it is visible to the public.

Arni Grace Soro, the chief of the Consumer Protection Division of the DTI said that the LPCC composite team composed of the DTI, DA, DILG, PNP and City Agriculture will go around the market every day to ensure that they fully comply with EO 39.(jcc/Pagadian Times)
