PAGADIAN CITY, August 24- The local government unit (LGU)
of Pagadian has allocated P20-million pesos that can be used to purchase
machinery to help the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Thus disclosed Mayor Samuel Co during the opening of the
Trade Fair and Exhibit sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)
as one of the highlights of the 32nd Mindanao Business Conference (MinBizCon).
Co said the P20-million allocated by the city government will help MSMEs in the city to improve their products, especially in labeling their products properly and to develop good packaging to attract more buyers. The local chief executive said that the good and presentable label and packaging will help MSMEs to market their products more easily.
Co further announced that the city government is also
implementing several tourism infrastructure projects to help MSMEs in our area.
The mayor added that when the tourism spots in the city
are fully developed, they will be given a place where they can promote or sell
their products to local and foreign tourists. Among them, is the setting up of
a ‘pasalubong booth’ at the Pagadian City airport so that MSMEs can display
their products.
Hazel Lu, the president of the Pagadian City-Zamboanga del Sur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCZSCCI) said that the objectives of MinBizCon are to help MSMEs and to strengthen the tourism industry which is the major economic driver in Mindanao.
Lu added that it will also increase the exposure of MSMEs
for added value to innovation and concepts for global competitiveness and to
develop new markets.
Lu added that the so-called business to business and
Public Private Partnership (PPP) will be created among the delegates and LGUs
and to promote the big and small brother business relationship for a more
progressive Mindanao.
The PCZSCCI president thanked the active participation of
the LGUs in the activity as well as the participation of the national
government agencies (NGAs) particularly the Department of Trade and Industry
(DTI) and the Department of Agriculture (DA) which are called “brains of trade
fair and exhibit”.
The Trade Fair and Exhibit was participated by various
MSMEs in Mindanao who displayed their food and non-food products at the City
Commercial Center (C-3). (jcc/Pagadian Times)
