PAGADIAN CITY, June 28— The Department of Health (DOH) launched the "Sa Booster PinasLakas" campaign at the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center (ZDSMC) on Tuesday.

Dr. Anatalio Cagampang, Jr., the chief of Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) volunteered to be the first employee who received the bivalent COVID-19 shot from the list of priority groups for the COVID-19 vaccination: category A (the health workers and frontliners) and A2 (the senior citizens).

Cagampang said that the booster shot will cure everyone because it can maintain the strength of the vaccines that individuals already have.

Cagampang further explained that the bivalent COVID-19 vaccines include a component corresponding to the original strain of the virus to provide broad protection against COVID-19 and a component corresponding to the omicron variant to provide better protection against COVID-19 due to the omicron variant.

He said that the vaccines are very helpful for the 800 health workers and senior citizens of ZDSMC who have already received the 2nd booster shot and especially for those who are planning to go abroad because it is a bivalent booster shot.

The IPHO chief disclosed that the ZDSMC has never stopped accepting COVID-19 patients and the admission area for COVID-19 is still there because the threat of this infectious disease is still ongoing.

He added that the average daily admission of COVID-19 patients in the hospital is from 12 to 20, thus he continues to urge the health workers, senior citizens and other priority groups to support the "Sa Booster PinasLakas" campaign of the government.

The campaign started rolling out in Zamboanga Peninsula from June 27 until July 7, 2023. (jcc/KBP-Zamboanga del Sur )
