PAGADIAN CITY, June 5—The Department of Health (DOH)-9 has extended the 2023 Measles Rubella, bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity (MRbOPV SIA) until June 15.

In advisory number 19 dated May 31 issued by Dr. Joshua Brillantes, the regional director said that in the SIA campaign from May 2 to 30, it was learned that the overall coverage of Measles Rubella in Zamboanga Peninsula was only 79% where it fell short by 16% to reach 95% herd immunity coverage in all barangays.

Brillantes said that the target of children aged 9 to 59 months to be vaccinated in the region is 374,081 but only 299,138 children have been vaccinated with an equivalent 80% coverage.

The regional director added that there is a need to vaccinate 79,593 unvaccinated children to reach the 95% target.

The areas where the extension will be held are as follows: Zamboanga del Sur and Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga City. While the city of Dapitan achieved a coverage of 100%, Isabela City-99% and Dipolog City-96%, respectively.

Meanwhile, the regional director thanked all local government units (LGUs) through provincial, city and municipal health offices and all health personnel for their steadfast commitment and support shown during the SIA campaign.
