By Gideon C. Corgue
PAGADIAN CITY, March 25-- As a show of concern for the
environment, the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP)-Zamboanga del
Sur chapter along with stakeholders participated in the regionwide
simultaneous estero and coastal clean-up drive here recently .
Bringing their cleaning tools such as rakes, empty sacks, gloves and trash pick up sticks, the local chapter led by Melchor Coronel went to the beach in barangay San Pedro especially on the side of the Boulevard and picked up the garbage floating on the beach.
Coronel is happy that the members of the local chapter
continue to show their active participation in coastal clean-up by removing
garbage that harms marine life and human health.
"I am happy with the strong unity shown by the
broadcasters from the various AM and FM radio stations in Pagadian City in
participating in the coastal clean up. This only explains the great love and
concern of the KBP members for our environment," Colonel said.
"As a radio announcer, I also feel as a responsible
citizen who is always keen to pay a social contribution in activities that
seeks to protect the environment. It always feels good to me to give back to
the environment that offers life," he added. Colonel said.
Jennery Taburada of DXMB Radyo Sakto is happy to have participated in the coastal clean-up because she wants to help the organization to protect marine life by cleaning water bodies.
"We broadcasters are not only good at broadcasting,
but we will also show that we are good at serving and protecting the
environment," Taburada added.
The regionwide simultaneous estero and costal clean-up
is part of the observance of World Water Day organized by the Department of
Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-9) with the participation of national
government agencies, private sector and non-government organizations. (jcc/KBP-Zamboanga
