PDAO pushes for the implementation of laws that benefit PWDs
By Gideon C. Corgue
PAGADIAN CITY, March 05---
The Person with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) is pushing for the
implementation of national laws that have provided benefits to persons with
disabilities (PWDs).
Miriam Llanos, the
provincial head said that they insist on the implementation of Republic Act
10070 otherwise known as "A law that establishes the institutional
mechanism to ensure the implementation of programs and services for PWDs in all
provinces and municipalities in the country,” and in order to improve the living condition
of the PWD sector.
Llanos, who is also the PDAO National President received reports online that some of her fellow social workers in the municipalities reported to DILG that their PDAO was functional even though they know that in reality there are non-existent PDAOs in some municipalities just to pass the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) evaluation.
Llanos said that the PDAO
will conduct a surprise visit to the LGUs to know exactly which LGUs are
implementing the law. "We also request the local government units (LGUs)
to faithfully implement the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of that
law", Llanos added.
Meanwhile Benjamin Solivio,
Jr., the focal person of the PWDs in the city is happy that the PDAO office in
Pagadian City has been established recently so that it can be a place of
shelter for the PWDs.
Solivio added that in the
newly established PDAO, the PWDs can express their sentiments, problems and
suggestions for the development of the sector.
Lino Cesar Jr, the municipal
head of the PDAO in Tabina is also happy that the PDAO has been established in their
municipality because the PWDs now have a place to visit and they can also
discuss their problems with the office staff.
He said that there is a big
difference in an LGU that does not have a PDAO if it is compared to the LGU
that already has an established PDAO.
"In PDAO, PWDs are not
ashamed to report their problems because its staff are all PWDs who are very
willing to listen and understand their situation," Cesar concluded. (jcc/KBP Zamboanga del Sur)
