TUKURAN, Zamboanga del Sur, March 26— The Medical and Dental Civic Action (MEDCAP) of the 1st Cavalry (Tagapanguna) Battalion, Armor Division, Philippine Army benefited more than 200 residents of Barangay Manlayag in Tukuran town recently.

The beneficiaries are as follows: 87- medical check up, 46- dental services, 40- free haircut-40, and others received free medicines and food.

Major Adrian Aquino, executive officer said that MEDCAP is one of the pre-activities for the unit's 49th anniversary in April 2023 which carries the theme "Healing Hands, Caring Hearts, We are Here for You".

"The event aims to bring basic health services to the people who live in far flung communities, especially barangay Manlayag which is one of our adopted barangays in the province. We made them feel that the government has not forgotten them in providing services especially to the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantage Areas (GIDAs)," Aquino explained.

Punong Barangay Rosela Colipano is very happy with the MEDCAP conducted by 1CAV in their barangay because their residents benefited from free health services from the military.

Meanwhile, Colipano recalled that in the past, their barangay did not have roads, water, and electricity and it also had no entertainment and was often visited by the New Peoples Army (NPA) but when government implemented the development projects and services in the barangay, the group has disappeared.

She added that when she was still in high school, if they saw soldiers they would run away as fast as they could because of their fear. But now, they will feel the joy of seeing the soldiers because they have experienced and enjoyed the services they offer to the poor people.

Armie Lou Austria, the manager of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Police Savings and Loan Association, Inc. (AFPSLAI) also said that as one of the sponsors of the event, they were very encouraged to support the 1CAV's MEDCAP because  services were provided to the poor people.

"We always provide financial and moral support to the programs and services that 1CAV does to their adopted barangays so that the people can experience lasting peace and order in our province," Austria added.

The event was also supported by the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division, Philippine Army through the KMCS Station Hospital and 3161st Dental Detachment, 53rd Infantry Battalion, 1st Field Artillery Battalion and Malindang Broadcasting Network. (jcc/KBP-Zamboanga del Sur)
