Mayor Co optimistic that Pagadian will become highly urbanized city in the country

PAGADIAN CITY, February 1 (KBP)—The local chief executive of Pagadian City hopes that the city will become one of the highly urbanized cities in the country.


Thus, disclosed Mayor Samuel Co in his message during the celebration of the Chinese New Year before the city officials and employees, the Filipino-Chinese Community, and spectators at the Plaza Luz recently.

Co said that the 2023 Chinese New Year that brings the Zodiac sign of water rabbit gives the Filipino-Chinese Community in the city the "longevity, peace and prosperity".

He also said that this year's celebration brings a good sign to the Pagadianons and because of this, he hopes that Proclamation No. 1247 signed on November 8, 2021 by former President Rodrigo Duterte which is the "Conversion of Pagadian City to a highly-Urbanized City" will be fully realized.

"I am very hopeful that the city of Pagadian will become a highly-urbanized city and I believe that this will be fully realized with the support of the city and provincial officials especially with the help of Governor Victor Yu and 1st District Representative Divina Grace Yu,' Co explained.


He also hoped that this year,  the big stores such as Robinson's Mall and Pure Gold would open as well as tourism infrastructure such as the water park, Palpalan viewing deck, Poloyagan beach resort, rotunda park, Kendis cave, Manga falls and others will be fully constructed," he added.

The local chief executive thanked the Almighty that the Chinese New Year was celebrated without restrictions from the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases such as wearing a face mask, and there were no disasters experienced in the city in the past years.


Meanwhile, in the same event the Chinese students performed a Lion Dance, as one of the most important traditions at Chinese New Year and another Chinese dance performed by the City Tourism Council led by First Lady Ilang-Ilang Fernandez Co and fireworks display at the Plaza Luz that entertained the people.

Co conveyed his warm gratitude to the Filipino-Chinese Community and the local government of Pagadian and the Pagadian Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc. who helped organize the activities and made the celebration of the 2023 Chinese New Year in Pagadian a success.
