Stakeholders actively support DENR’s Clean-Up drive

PAGADIAN
CITY, January 25 (KBP)— To encourage stakeholders to help the government
protect and conserve the environment, the Department of Environment and Natural
Resources (DENR) initiated a region-wide Estero and Coastal Clean Up Drive' on
January 25, 2023 .
Ronald Gadot, the in-charge of the office of the executive regional director said that the event is one of the highlights of the observance of Zero Waste Month in January, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 761, dated May 2014 and this also marks the 20th signing of RA 9003 which is the 'Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000".
Bringing
their cleaning equipment such as rakes and bags, the members of the Kapisanan ng
mga Broadcasters ng Pilipinas (KBP)-Zamboanga del Sur chapter together with the
1st CavalryTagapanguna Battalion, Armor Division, 1st Field Artillery (Beat Em)
Battalion, Philippine Army and other stakeholders participated in the event and
cleaned the water passage of the Balangasan river leading to the water source
in barangay Sta. Lucia.
Gadot added that the purpose of cleaning and collecting garbage is to eliminate the amount of garbage and toxicity of waste materials that accumulate in the estuaries and coastal areas.
Danilo
Pelare, the station manager of DXMB said that he and his staff were motivated
to participate in the event because as broadcasters it is their responsibility
to protect the environment.
"Cleaning
is not only the government's responsibility, but it is all our responsibility.
Cleaning the estero and coastal areas will contribute a lot to our Mother
Earth," Pelare said.
Estanley Duenas, a broadcaster of RMN DXPR radio station said that in the activities that the government will do to protect the environment, he will not fail to attend.
"I
am happy that we, the stakeholders, were able to collect several bags of
garbage at the Balangasan bridge," Duenas happily announced.
In
a similar event, the 1st Field Artillery (Beat Em) Battalion which was assigned
to the coastal barangay of White Beach, also collected 36 bags of garbage that were turned over to the DENR.
This year's theme is "Stepping Up Solid Waste Management through the efficient Extended Producers Responsibility." (GCC/KBP-Zamboanga del Sur)
