PAGADIAN CITY, January 22 (KBP)— To combat global warming and prevent flooding and landslides, the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP)-Zamboanga del Sur chapter conducted a tree planting activity in the watershed of barangay Manga  recently.

About 500 indigenous tree seedlings of variety of forest tree species provided by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) were planted by the 2022 KBP Accreditation exam passers and personnel of the 1st Field Artillery Battalion (1FB), Army Artillery Regiment and Tactical Operations Group (TOG) -9), Philippine Air Force in the watershed of barangay Manga here.

Melchor Coronel, the chairman of the KBP local chapter said that this event is part of the activities for the year 2023 that provide services to the community.

Coronel added that the radio announcers who underwent on-the-job training were taught to give great value to themselves in caring for our environment by planting trees. Coronel said that their participation in planting trees is part of the requirement for the evaluation of their performance as on-the-job trainees before they are granted a license as radio announcers.

"We will take care of the planted trees so that they will grow and provide shade around the watershed. We will also visit what we planted every month because this activity is not only called "tree planting but also tree growing" ,” Coronel added.

In the same development, Lt. Christine Leah Dimachete of TOG-9, said that their battalion actively participated in the tree planting activity of KBP and DXPR radio station because they are the regular partners of the unit and they are committed to participate in the services to be rendered to the community.

S/Sgt. Rey Floren of 1FAB said that their unit always supports the tree planting activity of KBP because the battalion and KBP signed a memorandum and understanding (MOU) four years ago, where the MOU ordered the two organizations to provide in their service when there is an activity to be conducted for the good of the community.

"We are not only good at firing cannons, but we are also good at planting trees so that we can help solve climate change that has cost many people's lives and property," Floren concluded. (GCC/KBP-Zamboanga del Sur)
